Carnival Week Has Arrived!
With only 6 days to Carnival Day there has been lots happening this week. The Parade Workshops after school have given us some great results so far with Carnival Biers (platforms with sculptures that are carried at shoulder height through the parade) and standards being created on the ‘Ambergate in Motion’ theme. Expect to see diggers, tractors, trains, flying contraptions and balloons travelling through the village on the 12th. Anyone is welcome to join in the parade and the colour theme we are working to is a white base with digger yellow and sky blue, which we hope will dazzle all carnival goers.
The Ambergate School workshops may have upset the neighbours with their noisy drumming and energetic dance, but they were to prove a success when performing at the opening of the Food Festival in Belper on Sunday morning. Everyone made the most of a brief but welcome window in the weather to please the crowd with a rousing performance that really got the festival started. Over the next few days everyone will be perfecting their skills and finishing the costumes and sculptures for the Grand Parade at 1pm on Saturday the 12th.
Straight after the Food Festival it was straight back to the ‘Round and Round and Up and Down’ Races. These were run in the rain by our brave competitors and the runners are listed here. Medals and trophies were handed to the winners by Councillor Juliette Blake and Carnival Queen Emma Spendlove. Unfortunately it was decided to call off the Family Sports Day due to the rain, although watch this space as we may hold it later in the Summer.
The Treasure Hunt on Thursday evening was well attended and enjoyed by all and yet again found a brief glimpse of sunshine. The Street Dance session on Friday night culminated in a fantastic routine devised by Noel Moore and our local dancers. Monday will see the sketching workshops begin with Tess Willoughby, followed by the after-school Face Painting session. Tuesday at 7.30 at the Hurt Arms is Quiz night, and then it’s onto Friday for Band Night.
Don't forget to start your entries to the competition this year, you can download the details here. Also Programmes have now been printed by Jayem Printing and they look great. Make sure you buy one on the day as this will help us put on the Carnival for 2009!
