Dan Collins in ActionAnd visitors will not only be able watch the circus acts – they will also get the chance to try their hand at learning some of the amazing circus skills on display!

Ambergate Carnival is taking place on Saturday 10th July at The Hurt Arms Carnival Showground, Derby Road, Ambergate (on the A6 / A610 junction). The circus-themed procession is due to leave the Recreation Ground at 1.30pm.

During the afternoon visitors will be able to enjoy performances by the Dan Collins Suitcase Circus. “The most dextrous man in the business” will be wowing the crowds with his displays of unicycling, diabolo and juggling.

People can also take part in Deluxe Circus Workshops, run by ‘The Joker’, offering a wide range of fantastic activities for all the family to enjoy. Performers will be on hand to provide expert tuition to help everyone master the circus skills.

Kate Pierce, Chair of the Ambergate Carnival Committee said: “The workshops offer something for everyone, from toddlers to teenagers to grandparents! We hope lots of people will come along and have a go at the activities on offer, which include juggling, diabolo and plate spinning. You can also learn the art of balloon modelling – and even take home your creations! And for the more adventurous, this could be your big chance to try some more advanced circus tricks, such as unicycling and stilt walking. It promises to be a fun and memorable afternoon for all the family to enjoy.”

Elsewhere on the Carnival Showground there will be a host of stalls, sideshows and attractions, including electric go-karts, a bouncy castle and inflatable slide, have-a-go archery, and displays by the Long Eaton Militaries and Ripley Morris Men, plus lots more.

The fun is set to continue well into the evening, with live music provided by The Beatroot Beatles and The S.U.B.S at the Carnival After Party, held in the Carnival Marquee at the Hurt Arms. Tickets, costing £5, can be bought in advance from Chris by calling 01773 853571.

There’s also a great line up of events planned during the run up to the Carnival. For those who enjoy snapping up a bargain, why not come along to our Car Boot Sale starting at 8am on Sunday 4th July at The Hurt Arms. This will be followed by the Carnival Fun Run, which gets underway at 1pm, and the Carnival Dog Show and Sports Day, which begin at 2pm.

And then get together with friends to put your general knowledge to the test at our famous Ambergate Carnival Quiz Night, at 7.30pm on Thursday 8th July at The Hurt Arms. Come along early to secure your seat at this ever-popular event. Entry fee is £6 per team and includes a free buffet. For more information contact Jonathan on 01773 856719.

First News for Carnival 2010

By , 3 February 2010 10:47 pm

The date is set as Saturday 10th July 2010 for a “Circus” themed carnival.

It wouldn’t be too difficult to work out from our theme what our main attraction in 2010 is likely to be… can’t say too much more right now, but it’s pretty exciting and certainly different!

After discussions in the meeting held on 16th November in the Hurt Arms there are also already other bookings in the pipeline for several other attractions for the day itself plus a really exciting musical booking for the evening of the Carnival too!

Next meeting for Ambergate Carnival Committee 2010 will be on Monday 15th February 2010 at 8pm at Hurt Arms Inn, A6 Ambergate.
