Carnival Date for 2011 Announced

By , 21 October 2010 1:50 pm

Following on from a really successful 2010 Carnival, Saturday 9th July has now been set as the date for the 2011 Ambergate Carnival.  As usual there will also be other events in the run up to Carnival day itself and throughout the year, including pub quizzes, fundraising sales and sports events.

This year’s Carnival day was a great success, thanks to the generosity of several local businesses, the help of Derbyshire Police and the efforts of volunteer helpers on, before and after the main event.  Making sure the hundreds of people that came to the Carnival this year had a great time would have been very difficult without their assistance, and the committee would welcome more helpers and sponsorship.

Anyone interested in finding out more about how they can be involved in the 2011 Carnival can contact Lisa Leach, Chair of the Carnival Committee, on 01773 856719 for more information.

The next committee meeting will be on Monday 1st November at 7.30om (venue to be announced).

Quiz Night Results

This year’s Carnival Quiz was a great success, as 24 teams packed into the Hurt Arms pub to fight it out to be crowned Ambergate Quiz Champions!

The Quiz was over eight close-run rounds, which included testing the teams’ knowledge on topics such as pop music, sport, current affairs, movie quotes and children’s TV theme tunes. Midway through proceedings there was chance to give the old brain cells a bit of a rest thanks to the pub putting on a fantastic free buffet for everyone.

All in all we raised £209 during the evening, which is a much welcome boost to Carnival funds. A big thank you to Jonathan for compiling the Quiz and doing an excellent job as quizmaster, to the staff at the Hurt Arms who were kept busy all night, to everyone who donated a raffle prize and of course, to all the teams that took part. Ready, Steady, Go! for Carnival Fun Runs

By , 24 June 2010 12:00 pm
Fun Run 2009 # 1

Fun Run 2009 # 1

Runners of all ages and abilities are invited to dig out their trainers and come along and take part in this year’s Ambergate Fun Runs and Family Sports Day.

The events are being held on Sunday 4 July to mark the beginning of Ambergate Carnival Week.

The ‘Up and Down’ race takes runners up into Shining Cliff Woods and back again, while the ‘Round and Round’ race, for the very young and less fit, takes a flatter and altogether less demanding route. Both races start from The Hurt Arms pub on the A6 in Ambergate at 1pm.

Kate Pierce, Chair of the Ambergate Carnival Committee, said: “The Up and Down has always been popular over the years, with fierce competition for the honour of being first to cross the finishing line. Unfortunately the bad weather in recent summers has reduced the enthusiasm and number of entries, and the future of the run is under threat. This will be the 20th year we’ve held the Up and Down, and it would be such a shame if it were the last. We hope lots of people will come along and support the fun runs and help keep this long-standing Ambergate tradition alive!”

After the medal presentations and lunch – hot food will be provided on site, or bring a picnic – the Family Sports Day begins at 2pm, with a host of school sports activities and races for both kids and big kids alike!

Dog Show 2009

Dog Show 2009

And for those who prefer to spend their afternoon at a more leisurely pace, why not come along to the Carnival Dog Show, a fun event for dogs and their owners to show off their canine talents! The Show begins at 2pm; for more information contact Claire on 01773 856950.

Marshalls are vital to the success of the fun runs and Sports Day, and more volunteers to help at the events are always needed. If you can help, or would like to find out more about the day’s events, please ring 01773 856785.
